About Us
Artisan Collab by SPD
Established in 1986 as part of the SPD Sheltered Workshop, the Artisan Collab initiative provides employment and vocational training for persons with disabilities. Through this initiative, exclusive merchandise - either handcrafted or designed by artists with disabilities - are thoughtfully curated to recognise and showcase their skills and creativity.
Under this initiative, a bookbinding section provides a platform for our craftspeople to perfect their skills in the tradition craft of bookbinding and book restoration. Building their legacy, the bookbinders paved the way for new artisans to be developed. The new outfit now sees a succession of younger persons with disabilities being trained in leather-crafting, stitching together artisan products perfect as gifts for your loved ones or corporate partners.
With the support of Keppel Ltd, the Artisan Collab e-shop was revamped in 2020. This also saw a progressive expansion of product lines, from premium handbound journals and hand-stitched leather products to collaboration with artists with disabilities to produce exclusive lifestyle merchandise, with each product representing the tenacity of the artisans to overcome their personal challenges.
Proceeds from the sales of these merchandise contribute to the sustainability of the Artisan Collab initiative.
